Community Foundation of Halton North

Smart & Caring Fund

In the 1920’s, when Community Foundations were established in Canada, the founding individuals could not have foreseen the challenges and problems facing communities almost 100 years later. The power of an unrestricted gift allows Community Foundation’s to provide grants to charities that are deemed a high priority – areas of need that have a profound impact on the community at large.

CFHN’s unrestricted gift fund is called the Smart and Caring Community Fund.

Why? As Canada celebrated our country’s 150th birthday, Governor General David Johnston challenged Canadians to imagine our country as it could be – a “smart and caring nation” that holds promise for everyone. The almost 200 Community Foundations across Canada rose to that challenge by establishing Smart & Caring Community Funds from coast to coast to coast.

“Join me in imagining our country as it could be…a smart and caring nation, where all Canadians can succeed, contribute, and develop their talents to their fullest potential.” – Governor General of Canada, David
